DETROIT (AP) - The Detroit Red Wings started and finished strong.
Johan Franzen scored twice, and Henrik Zetterberg had a goal and two assists in Detroits 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night.
Tomas Holmstrom added a goal and an assist, and Drew Miller also scored, and Jimmy Howard made 21 saves for Detroit, ninth in the Western Conference _ a point behind Nashville and Calgary.
The Red Wings have sometimes started slowly this season and have blown a few third-period leads.
&amp;quot;I thought we got started on time and played 60 minutes,&amp;quot; Detroit coach Mike Babcock said.
The Red Wings lost 4-2 to Calgary on Tuesday night at Joe Louis Arena.</description>

With the teams trading chances back in forth during an entertaining extra session, Tyler Bozak intercepted a pass and broke in on a 2-on-1, deked around Vincent Lecavalier and slipped the puck to an open Kessel, who easily beat Mike Smith.
Bozak also scored in regulation, while fellow rookie Viktor Stahlberg had two goals to help the Maple Leafs (22-33-12) win for the third time in four games.</description>

MONTREAL (AP) - Andrei Kostitsyn scored on Montreals fifth shootout attempt and Jaroslav Halak turned aside five shots in the tiebreaker to help the Canadiens extend their winning streak to four games with a 5-4 victory over Edmonton on Thursday night.
Halak, who stopped 21 shots in regulation and overtime, and Edmontons Devan Dubnyk each turned aside the first four shooters they faced before Kostitsyn deked and shot past Dubnyk on the Canadiens fifth attempt.
Sam Gagner, whose power-play goal 3:43 in gave Edmonton its only lead at 2-1, lost control of the puck on the Oilers final attempt.
Tomas Plekanec, Brian Gionta, Travis Moen and Sergei Kostitsyn scored for Montreal, which led three times during the game.
Robert Nilsson, Andrew Cogliano and Shawn Horcoff also scored for Edmonton, which lost its second in a row.
The Oilers are last overall in the NHL with a 21-39-6 record and 49 points.
Horcoff, who tied it at 4 with his 11th goal midway through the third, drove in on a short-handed breakaway late in overtime but was stopped by Halak after Andrew Cogliano was called for holding 3:28 into overtime.</description>
