Into Hes Just Not That Into You

An all-star cast, including Scarlett Johannsen, Jennifer Aniston, and Ben Affleck among many others, brings a best-selling self-help book to the big screen . Romantic comedies are a dime a dozen and tend to be so formulaic thats its rare for a good one to come along.

No film has racked up more nominations this year, be it the Golden Globes, the Critics Choice Awards, or the Oscars, than THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON and yet no film has racked up more losses either.

Slumdog Slam-dunk

Except for maybe Barack Obama, who could possibly have had a better week than the filmmakers behind SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE? They wake up to ten Oscar nominations Thursday morning, pick up the Producers Guild Award for Best Picture on Saturday and last night (Sunday) they complete the trifecta by winning the Screen Actors Guild award for Best Ensemble (SAGs equivalent of the Best Picture Award.) If SLUMDOG doesnt win the Best Pic Oscar next month it will be the biggest upset at least since CRASH beat BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, and probably since SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE knocked off SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.
I cant stress enough how significant the SAG award is for SLUMDOG.

Oscar Nominations: Several surprises

Okay, so the obvious nods came through - Slumdog Millionaire, Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, and Milk for Best Pic; Meryl Streep, Kate Winslett, and Anne Hathaway for Best Actress; and Sean Penn, Mickey Rourke, and Frank Langella for Best Actor.

But there were some real surprises.

Ed Zwick is a bright articulate guy whos responsible for some of the best commercial television series ever broadcast ("My So-Called Life", "Thirty-Something", "Once and Again".) Hes also the director of a number of successful movies ("Glory", "The Last Samurai", "Blood Diamond") that seem to relish grappling with dynamic social issues.

"Slumdog Millionaire" sweeps

The improbable is becoming more and more probable as "Slumdog Millionaire" sweeps another awards ceremony.
It was a Slumdog kind of night at the Golden Globe Awards.
Just as it did with the Critics Choice Awards last week, the small film about a poor Indian kid, who finds himself on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire," bested the higher profile films: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, and Doubt - all of whom went home empty-handed.
Almost as big a winner as Slumdog Millionaire was Kate Winslett.

In no particular order, here are the years biggest busts and disappointments . Get Smart - The TV series was funny, the movie not . Just casting Steve Carell does not make something funny.
