So which approach will Dori take?
If Dori sides with the sick, then you can stretch to say nationalized health care would be a good thing and allow this family to pay their other bills. Side with PSE, who expects payment for services rendered, then YOU'RE KILLING HER.

Litmus test: Here's where "private philanthropy" needs to kick in.....
We often hear the anti-tax crowd remark that situations like this should be resolved by private philanthropy, not the public treasury. Let's see which church, civic group, wealthy individual, group of relatives, or concerned neighbors step up to the plate and demonstrate that we don't need govt to solve this problem.

It's unlikely that anybody thinks this woman deserves to die (or die more quickly) because she can't pay her power bill.

    Pay your bill...
Gee, I wonder what will happen if I do not pay my power bill for months? Let me think....

Chuck, Nice try to promote your "government is the cure for everything agenda”. We don't need the some over inflated bureaucratic program to help these folks there are plenty of churches and other charitable organizations that would help them. All they need to do is just ask.

    "Side with PSE"
While this is a tremendously bad situation, I don't agree with Dori here.

    1) The "company" PSE is like the "company" sound transit, they are only "private" when it's convenient. They are a GSE like Fannie and Freddie.

    2) It would be better if people who could helped this poor woman pay her electric bills. Under National HealthCare she wouldn't have to worry about paying the electric bill for her treatment, because if she wasn't DENIED, due to her age, she would've been put on such a long waiting list that she would have DIED.

    3) The "evil conservative" side of me on this other hand. Actions have consequences, and she likely has lung cancer from smoking. At this stage WE ALL know that smoking cigarettes causes lung cancer, therefore should we pay for someone else's mistakes? (the government certainly wouldn't cover high risk patients like this... Remember the Obama is trying to LOWER costs, that he CLAIMS the government is paying for healthcare by covering more people.

Now that's logic I can believe in.

    Humanity
Interesting how a simple matter of someone's life becomes issue for everyone's political arguments and money. My husband lost his job in December - a great career. We lost our health care coverage on unemployment - cannot afford COBRA, even with the stimulus package help. What do we do in an economy, where the industry he's spent 20 years in being phased out (paper printing), I work part time in order to be able to care for our children around school, with no benefits and one of us gets sick? People like to act like everything in life is in people's control but sometimes you don't and it's pure survival. This is what tests our humanity.

    if there is a fund
I can kick in some money to help these folks. Better us as individuals than government helping these people.

    Fund??
If anyone hears of a fund please post the info, This is a case that the people, not the politicians, can take care of. Hang in there folks don't give up yet.
