imaginary radio for real people

I Love You Chunk!

Tonight, our friend Pete came on the show to declare his love for a Russian spa here in Seattle.

banya

There's a super hot room (178 degrees), then there's a cold pool and finally old brooms for people to beat you with. What's not to love?

YES, I just heard the F Bomb on KIRO
I love live radio. What's this thing about Russian Spas anyway? I guess I should have tuned in sooner. I need to stop paying attention to my kid.
  • ^yeah that totally caught me off guard haha Pete didn't sell me on the Russian spa. He should have been more enthusiastic about it.

pros and cons of Russian spas
If I learned anything about Russian spas from the movie Eastern Promises, there are some issues with Russian spas. Con: possibility of being stabbed by Ukrainian mobsters. Pro: chance to see Viggo Mortensen naked (if you are into that, I mean). Just some thoughts.

    Actually quite nice...
When I was younger, I would visit my aunt & uncle in Miami and they would take me to the Russian Spa. I loved it! It had various "hot" rooms and "cool" pools. I especially loved the larger steam room. You would have buckets of water that you poured over yourself to cool off, but that would create more steam and make the room hotter. Basically, the process is supposed to get the toxins out of your body. Afterward, my skin felt so soft!

    Totally Agree
Living in Budapest "the baths" are a must. Its cheaper, like 10 bucks, and instead of cucumber water, you can drink thermal water (tastes like hot, eggy water) Even the better swimming pools have saunas (black saunas in the lingo used here) where you might find a 70 year old man scrubbing himself incessantly for 20 minutes with a nail brush, or a gaggle of four year olds warming up after their swim lessons. Either way, its used for health purpose- sweat out the toxins as well as warming up after a cold swim- But check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omzQCFEzZKw

    catching up on podcast archive...
...but listening to Pete sell the Bulgarian spas and it sounds great. I'm going to Bulgaria in march for a cheap-[no swearing please] ski trip and I'm adding this to my itinerary. Now once I get my TBTL ringtones synced to my iPhone and I'll be all set.
