Dori rides at 100 MPG

Dori took a ride today in an Avion. The vehicle currently holds the Guinness World Record for MPG, the car was recently recorded at 113 MPG. Craig Henderson, from Bellingham, developed the first prototype in 1984 and is a contender for the $10 million Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize to develop a production-capable, 100 MPG vehicle.

    So what?
Their website states "The car has been designed to be manufactured in small volume...". What good does that do for anyone except the few rich people who will drive it as a status symbol. Want to impress me? Build a 100mpg plug-in hybrid that sells for under $15,000.

That would only happen under a McCain administration with his energy plan. Too bad you are supporting the other guy.

Speaking of stuff you buy from the back page of comic books...
It looks the stretched reflection of an AMC Pacer in a fun house mirror and reminds me of a prop from 1970's sci-fi films. I want one!

    Let's impress Dave K
So you don't think that a car that was getting over 100mpg in 1986 is impressive? Basically you should be feeling like you got suckered: this technology was available twenty years ago and nobody really knows about it. Plus, Henderson says that it can sell for 20,000 dollars, which is about what a fully loaded civic costs - hardly a car for "a few rich people". I want one.

    I happen to know Craig...
He's a no BS, 100% credible, straight talker. If he says he's getting 100 + mpg, you can take that to the bank.

    McCain plan
Rick, You might have to point me to where there is anything in McCain's plan that would lead to a 100mpg, $15,0000 plug in hybrid. I have seen and heard nothing from him about that. The only thing I've heard from McCain/Palin is drill baby drill. If you are referring to big business tax breaks that hasn't done anything to get the American car manufacturer's moving in that direction. It took getting trounced by Asia and $4.00 gas to even get them to pay attention. If I were president I would use federal tax dollars to fund research into battery technology to make huge advances quickly, then I would give that technology to American companies provided they produced significant quantities of inexpensive hybrid commuter cars. I would consider this an investment in national security, getting us away from middle east oil. I would also drill for oil because we'll still need that.

    McCain on Transportation/Energy
There is actually a fair amount of information on McCain's website regarding cars, technology, fuel efficiency, and such. Take a peek if you like. http://www.johnmccain.com//Informing/Issues/17671aa4-2fe8-4008-859f-0ef1468e96f4.htm

Hey, Dori - I want to know ... was that Sarah Palin in the background of the first frame? Have you been keeping secrets and are really going to be interviewing her on your show tomorrow? :)
