Now HERE'S a good use of city dollars

A couple on Queen Anne - Wendy and Peter Lagozzino - have lived and gardened on Queen Anne for 36 years. They have a beautiful garden on their parking strip. Now they have gotten a letter from the city complete with digital photos that a city employee took telling them since their flowers hang over the sidewalk, they are facing a $650 fine. That it presents some kind of "hazard".

Phil went up to their house yesterday and took photos of their "hazard". Take a look for yourself in the photo gallery. Tell me if this looks like a danger to you. We spoke with Wendy Lagozzino on the show today.

Dori talks to homeowner
Queen Anne couple fined $650 for plants and flowers growing on to the sidewalk.

The city doesn't have enough manpower to go after house burglars or car thiefs... but it's good to know that we're finally bringing the gardeners to justice!

A good use of city dollars...
We tried to beautify our planting strip and were told we would have to pay for a $500 permit and go through an inspection and on and on...our planting strip is now a weed filled wasteland.

    Overgrown yards
There are plenty of overgrown and neglected eyesores all over. Go after those and leave this gal and her family alone.

    Give me a break!
What a ridiculous waste of not only taxpayer dollars, but also city employee time - all because some self-proclaimed sidewalk vigilante decided this didn't meet his/her standards. If Wendy is fined (and I hope the city hangs its' head in shame) maybe she could serve her sentence in gardening at the proposed beautification of the City Dump - shame, shame on the city!

    A Hazard?
A permit for growing flowers....ON THEIR PROPERTY?! Just exactly what hazard are they thinking of? Allergies? Seriously this is city micromanaging at it's worst! I wouldn't be surprised if it was one person who complained about it. Fire them all. Bump them all out of office.

    All gardens must be equal
How dare she have a yard that is differnt from the others on the street. All yards must be the same so no one feels bad about their own yards.

    Conservative Plants!
Obviously these very attractive, healthy, successful, and stable flora are way too conservative for Seattle. I don't see any flowers on welfare, no gay or lesbian flowers, no minority flowers, and no flowers supporting Obama. This beautiful flower strip is a disgrace to the limp liberal lilocks that abound in Seattle. Can't the owners find another color for chlorophyll!

    Think of the Carbon Offset!
In the effort to force green down our throats this seems counter productive.

    Queen Anne Scofflaws
Throw the book at 'em. These flower-growin' scofflaws. These fertilizer-wieldin' no-accounts. These carbon-reducin' outlaws. These garden-tool handlin' criminals. Put 'em in the pokey and throw away the key!

    More Revenue
City is getting desperate for Revenue. They have to pay for the Automatic Toilet's still, even though they are being removed.

    I'd Like These Neighbors
Compared to the overgrown blackberry patch that is my neighbor's house, I would love to live next door to people like this!
