Basketball News: A New Verbal and Tonight's Exhibition Game
Coach Ken Bone got an interesting verbal commitment today from 6-4 JC shooting guard Faisel Aden, according to Cougfan.com (article requires a subscription). Aden, who originally committed to New Mexico State out of high school, went the JC route after some problems with his high school paperwork and racked up some serious numbers last season at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, FL. He averaged 20 points per game last year and has been named a 2nd Team Pre-season JC All-American.
Like I’ve mentioned before, Bone found quite a bit of success recruiting JC players to PSU and Aden seems to be the type of player he looks for: Strong, fast and can shoot the lights out. Aden had scholarship offers from Oklahoma State, Mississippi State, Fresno State and Houston.
What makes this really interesting is that Bone only has one player graduating at the end of this season, Nik Koprivica, and his scholarship is all ready accounted for by incoming forward Patrick Simon. So where’s Aden’s scholarship coming from? Perhaps Bone expects that someone else will not be sticking around past this season.
The basketball squad will make its first public appearance this season with a 7pm Exhibition versus Lewis-Clark State. The Explorers (the LCSC nickname is actually “The Warriors” but I felt that “Explorers” is more appropriate and thusly choose to address them as such) are an NAIA team, which means this should not be a close match-up. I’m assuming Coach Bone will be using this game to work out some final lineup kinks and will experiment a bit, but there’s no reason why the Cougs shouldn’t win by 20+. Then again, UCLA needed a 3-pointer late in the game to beat NAIA Concordia 62-61 last week, so who knows. Not sure if that’s bad news for the Bruins or good news for all you Concordia fans out there – but perhaps it simply means it’s an exhibition. There’s no radio or TV coverage, so tune in here for a post-game post.
Go Cougs!

A die-hard Cougar fan while in Pullman, Bert's infatuation for all things Crimson and Gray turned in to an all-out obsession in the years since he's left.
