Updated Mariners Roster Moves

Update...Just received the new 40 man roster from the Mariners. The moves are listed at the bottom of this post.

Forgive me if this looks rushed, it is as I am doing updates every twenty minutes at the station...

Today is the deadline for teams to file Major and Minor League reserve lists for protection in the Rule 5 Draft. The M's have made a couple of moves and lost a couple of players.

Chris Jakabauskas was claimed by the Pirates and Robert Manual was claimed by the Red Sox.

I reached Jakabauskas by phone. "Well, it is an interesting start to my weekend," he said.

He told me he had been notified by the Mariners this morning that he had been taken off the 40 man roster. Forty-five minutes later he got the call that he had been claimed by the Pirates.

"It's kind of bittersweet," he told me. "It's a bummer actually. I made some good friends, good relationships. I understand the business but I really enjoyed being a part of what was going on up there."

It was quite a year for Jakabauskas who turned out to be the surprise of spring training. He made the club coming out of spring training and other than a short stint in the minors to rest his shoulder in August, stuck with the club all year.

"When they told me I was on waivers my first thought was I hope I am claimed. Not that I wanted to leave but it is good to know they wanted me. In the end it is all about having a job."

Will post the updated 40 man roster as soon as I have it.

Reinstated from 60-Day DL:

Outrighted to AAA Tacoma:

* INF Josh Wilson

Claimed Off Waivers:

* RHP Chris Jakubauskas by the Pittsburgh Pirates

* RHP Robert Manuel by the Boston Red Sox

The roster is now at 37.

  I'm sorry to see him go. This is one of those hard times of year for me. I really hate change and the Mariners have to make them but I hate it.

  Hey Shannon! I haven't heard Endy's name mentioned anywhere, I thought his was doing well on offense and outstanding on defense. Any thoughts from you or have you heard anything? Keep up the great reporting Shannon, you are the best friend a fan could ask for.
