First Uh Oh And It's Morrow

Comments   |   Print this   |   E-mail this

I don't want to make too much of this because it is a wait and see but Brandon Morrow did not feel good about his arm after a 25 pitch bullpen session.

He is feeling tightness near the elbow and there is inflammation. He had hoped to be back to normal today but that wasn't the case. He did feel better than the last time he threw.

He is feeling discomfort when throwing the change up. When we asked him about that he told us that the change up puts pressure on the flexor bundle and that is what he has had problems with in the past.

That's where the uh oh comes into play. This is the first time we have heard of any trouble with that. He said that he felt it from time to time last season and could pitch through it because his arm was more built up at that time of the year.

It hopefully means nothing but flexor bundle sounds little alarms when I hear it. The first time I remember the term coming up was with Joel Piniero in 2004. The problem lingered all season.

Hopefully this is nothing more than a flare up of where he normally has flareups. The team is deciding what to do next, and it does not look like he is on track to start this weekend. Will have more later.

    Games on the radio?
I'm excited that Spring Training is under way, but I'm disappointed that KIRO is not airing the Spring Training games like the "other" station did. I tuned in hoping to hear Dave Neihaus saying "swung on and belted!" but instead I heard some right-wing talk show blabbering about "those liberals at the state capitol" supporting "syntax." (Which is OK with me; proper grammar is something to which both conservatives and liberals should strive.) Maybe I've tuned in to the wrong station? Does the radio station that hosts the Mariners also have this right-wing talk show guy named something like "D'oh! Riemann-Sum" (perhaps a nom de plume for a math fan who's really into pre-calculus)? (Although, come to think of it, a mathematically gifted person would know the difference between $1240 per person over ONE year and $1250 per person over TWO years, so maybe the "D'oh! Riemann-Sum" pseudonym suggests that he "aspires to understand math" instead of "understands math"... but I digress.) And a final note: baseball is a great "gateway" to many branches of mathematics, so if any right-wing talk show hosts are serious about understanding arithmetic and statistics, baseball might be a fun introduction to math!

    welcome back
First want you to know that it will be great to hear you once again this season. You are a very good asset to mariner baseball. I hope that we will be able to hear more from you on KIRO than on KOMO. Look forward to reading your blog as well. I just found it. It looks like the state of Morrow's arm it maybe possible that he will end back in the bullpen, and also as the closer though not immediately. I think we were all looking forward to see him as a starting. Maybe the problem with arm trouble beginning last spring training the bullpen will be his place. I wonder if he either pitches too much or not enough preparing for the beginning of spring training. Hopefully, it will not mean that he may need some surgery. Anyway, Shannon continue on your good work and hearing your wonderful voice.

    Well Luck For You...
They'll air all 162 games in regular season. And just a small fact, there are only a few less games (as in 5) in spring training on KIRO than on the "other" station. Hense the reason they are creating a sports station to help prevent issues such as this. Patience is a virtue...

    Pardon me..
Hense the many reasons they are creating a sports station. Always good to be clear.
