SEATTLE, WA - News Talk 97.3 KIRO FM, in partnership with Treehouse, fulfilled the holiday wishes of over 4,000 Western Washington foster children by raising more than $408,000 during the 28-hour 20th Annual 97.3 KIRO FM Foster Child Holiday Magic Radiothon.
The Radiothon began at 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 4th and concluded Friday, December 5th at 7 p.m.
"It is a true privilege to have partnered with an exceptional community organization such as Treehouse," said 97.3 KIRO FM Program Director, Rod Arquette. "We are overjoyed with the incredible results achieved for local foster children through this year's 97.3 KIRO FM Foster Child Holiday Magic Radiothon."
"This year 97.3 KIRO FM Foster Child Holiday Magic Radiothon supported 4,084 kids in foster care. Thanks to the amazing generosity and support of the 97.3 KIRO FM listeners, we surpassed our goal of helping 4,000 foster kids and will now be able to provide holiday gifts to kids as they come into care thorough the month of December," said Janis Avery, Treehouse Executive Director. "Because of this level of dedication, we are making the season brighter for kids in foster care."
Since 1988, Treehouse (www.treehouse4kids.org) has filled the gaps for foster children that no other agency addresses: fees for extra-curricular programs and summer camp, educational support services, the wherewithal for full participation in the "everyday" activities of growing up and clothing and supplies so they "fit in" at school.
The Treehouse vision is to create a place for foster children and community supporters that will dramatically improve the lives of local foster kids. By establishing a visible source for services to youth, Treehouse has expanded programs and advocacy to far better meet demands that outstrip current capacity. Treehouse responds to the needs of local foster children better than any other agency in the Pacific Northwest.
The News Talk 97.3 KIRO FM Foster Child Holiday Magic Radiothon was presented by Applebee's and supported by Sterling Savings Bank. For more information on Holiday Magic and how to continue to donate, log onto www.mynorthwest.com.
