Obama blows it with BAD Healthcare analogy today... [audio]

obama-thumbs-up

Producer Jake says: Today, President Obama, at a Healthcare Townhall in Portsmouth NH, was asked about private insurers competing with the government public option . Obama made a mistake I think. Listen to the audio below and tell me if you agree.

Obama referenced UPS and Fed Ex as being two private companies who are forced to compete with the US Postal Service, which is run by the government. Obama made the point of assuring the crowd that even though they (UPS, Fed Ex) are forced to compete, that it is always the US Postal Service that is having the problems. When I heard this I nearly jumped out of my seat, THAT IS THE POINT, WHY DON'T PEOPLE GET IT. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. Obama is saying very clearly that privately run companies, driven by a PROFIT MOTIVE, run better than the government option. Seriously, can it get any more clear that Obama's own example?

(Thanks Breitbart for picking this up.)

    competition
A point I've been trying to make to people about the HR 3200 bill is that it makes it very difficult for private insurance to be affordable. It is going to tax both employers that don't offer the public option to their employees and individual tax payers who are not in the public option. If you make $50,000 like me, and pay about $7,000 for health insurance right now like I do, the gov't would come in and demand that my employer either offer the public option or they'll tax them 8% of my gross pay in addition to the other payroll taxes they already charge. Then they'll tax me 2.5% of my gross income because I'm not playing along. So it will cost me and my employer $12,250 ($7000 current cost + $5250 in new taxes) for the same $7000 insurance policy I have now, which means the government could charge as much as $10,000 for the same $7,000 plan I have now and I'd still "save" $2,500 (20%) a year if I switch to Obamacare. And thats assuming my $7000 insurance costs don't go up or the company goes out of business when a bunch of people leave that company to join the public option. This bill is a very bad idea and I don't want it, just based off of that financial example alone. If I made $100,000 and had that $7000 a year health plan, it would cost me and my employer $17,500 to keep my insurance, and it keeps going up from there. And my example is from only 3 pages of this 1000+ page bill. I've dealt with DSHS and state-run liquor stores and the court system and the IRS and the DMV, I don't want government involved with my healthcare. I wish more people would see this.

    Obama town meeting?
Talk about pre-arranged...The Dems rag on Sarah Palin about her "golly gee whizzes". What do they have to say about this crippled attempt at being Mr.Oratory. "I've seen some of those signs, too." Don't worry sweetie I got their names and numbers". "We'll set them straight with this death panel stuff". Death Panel....Sounds strangely similar to water board...hmmmm.....

Name one government run program that is efficient...
medicare/medicaid, social security (running out of money), fannie, freddie, and even the post office! All of these programs are money pits, we just keep throwing money in and things just get worse, for less return to us. I cannot understand why anyone thinks government run healthcare would be any different. And the pit on this one is HUGE. You will pay more for less.

    There are two points
They don't get..One is the one Jake brought out government does a lousy job at almost everything they run. Obama is trying to argue that the private insurance will be able to compete with government while inadvertently making Jakes' point. Snoqualmie explains why Obama is wrong. It is more they won't get it then they don't get it. Like cap and tax its about control not whats best for the country.

I don't why you are all slamming the DMV...
...I personally like the DMV and hope that my health care is run the same way. I enjoy going down there and taking a number (sometimes multiple numbers, if I'm lucky), perusing the deliciously bland traffic literature, realizing I got into the wrong line (yes! another number!), excitingly long wait times, etc. The communist grey-taupe color of the walls makes me feel warm inside because I know that my government is taking care of me through superior service. I know that beneath the scowls and odd smells, those DMV employees are laboring there out of the goodness in their hearts. I know this becuase they aren't there to make a profit! The DMV is closest we may ever get to Utopia.

    He actually gets it
Pres. Obama's response was actually not bad - trying to reassure the private companies they would not be hindered by the gov't plan as the gov't plan would not receive subsidies in competition with the private insurance companies. But, this lasts only until 2013 when the private's must conform to the gov't plan and then again in 2018.
