Dave Reichert SPEAKS: says Cap and Trade will be good for America [interview audio added]

Reichertimage

Congressman Reichert called into my show today to explain his reasoning for voting in favor of the Cap and Trade, Waxman-Pelosi bill. He argued that the expense would not be what the Heartland Institute, Heritage Foundation, and Wall Street Journal were predicting. He argued that it would cost around $.48 per day and that we would have better national security, more nuclear, coal and refining capabilities, and a cleaner environment with the bill. He argued that the conservative arguments against were mistaken, and that Washington specifically would be better off even though the bill was imperfect.

    yeah right
Reichert says 48 cents a day per family/person but what about the rest of the consumed goods? The big machines that care for/pick our veggies will likely have more than 48 cents tax a day, plus the pay they give their workers will require a 48 cent tax, plus the items they use to box/store the good will be taxes, plus the truck that hauls it across the state/country will be taxed, again the tax to pay the emlpoyee to unload it, plus the store has to pay their tax, again with the store employee tax and then FINALLY it's ready to be sold to us. 48 cent tax a day? YEAH RIGHT!!! Add up all the taxes it will take just to get to you and you'll be paying for your lettuce with your right arm. The Cap & Tax bill is a phony and it will NOT "just be the price of a postage stamp a day."

Reichert Lied About Increasing Domestic Oil Production
America’s biggest oil companies will probably cope with U.S. carbon legislation by closing fuel plants, cutting capital spending and increasing imports. Under Waxman-Markey , refiners would have to buy allowances for carbon dioxide spewed from their plants and from vehicles when motorists burn their fuel. Imports would need permits only for the latter, which ConocoPhillips Chief Executive Officer Jim Mulva said would create a competitive imbalance. “It will lead to the opportunity for foreign sources to bring in transportation fuels at a lower cost, which will have an adverse impact to our industry, potential shutdown of refineries and investment and, ultimately, employment,” Mulva said in a June 16 interview in Detroit. Houston-based ConocoPhillips has the second-largest U.S. refining capacity. The same amount of gasoline that would have $1 in carbon costs imposed if it were domestic would have 10 cents less added if it were imported, according to energy consulting firm Wood Mackenzie in Houston. Contrary to President Barack Obama’s goal of reducing dependence on overseas energy suppliers, the bill would incent U.S. refiners to import more fuel, said Clayton Mahaffey, an analyst at RedChip Cos. in Maitland, Florida. “They’ll be searching the globe for refined products that don’t carry the same level of carbon costs,” said Mahaffey, a former Exxon Corp. refinery manager.

Cap and Trade bill suxs but party poltics is worse
I believe the Cap and Trade Bill is the worst thing for this country. But I believe what is even worse for this country is party politics. I want Democrats standing up to the liberal party and giving them the middle finger. I want Republicans standing up to the conservative party and giving them the middle finger. I am honored that Congressman Dave Reichert had the balls to stand up against the Liberals when it came to the bailouts, stimulus bill and Obama's Budget. I am even more escatic that the Congressman had the balls to stand up against the Conservative Party. He represents his constituents not a political party. We need more officials in our government like Dave Reichert. He is not a politician and truly represents his district. He is the only man that can represent the liberals in King County and the Conservatives in Pierce County. This is why he needs to continue to represent the 8th Congressional District of Washington State.

    insanity...
I can't believe you're still defending Reichert!!! The reason we MUST fight to get rid of Reichert is that we can't allow ANYONE, just because they agree with us 75% of the time or because they're better than Darcy Burner, to betray us this badly. If congressmen aren't afraid of being thrown out for horrible decisions like this one, they'll continue to make them with the thought process that "oh my constituents will re-elect me anyway because I'm better than the Democrat." This is exactly what is wrong with Congress. We continue to re-elect people like Reichert who burn us on the important votes.

Get MR. Popeye Arms out of here
First the study is for $180 per person per year, which is vastly under rated, as gas prices alone are going to sky rocket. Second, the whole extremely long diatribe about how every bill doesn't get read, there is just too many of them to read them all. I have to say, how about stop trying to pass so much dang stuff. Leave it alone for a bit. Third, he was going on about how this will produce more energy, haaaaaaaaaa, yeah right, coal and petrolium energy can say goodbye. This is solely about global warming, not pro energy. What a lieing Smeg Head, sorry I have just watched some old Red Dwarf. He and his Popeye arms have to go. Let him run as a dem if he wants, but he will go. I would rather have a Dem in his place, as then I would know what he stands for. I am in his district, and I will be working to get this guy out of office next year.

    Reichert's bogus rationale
I love the end of the interview when Reichert stumbles on the ANWR question and is thus caught lying about having a national security rationale for supporting cap and tax. I hope Reichert goes down in flames in the next election. And Dave Boze, you don't seem to understand the true sense of betrayal on this issue. Your argument about how we shouldn't withdraw our support for a Republican because of one vote, or because they don't agree with us on everything, is sound. But this wasn't just any vote. Obama is driving hard to use his unprecedented power to enact a sweeping socialist agenda that will diminish this country in ways that few people foresee. Dave Reichert, either through stupidity or corrupt deal-making, played a critical role in passage of one of the most potentially destructive bills the country has ever seen. His apparent belief that we are in an environmental planetary emergency strongly suggests it's through stupidity. If Reichert can manage to get re-elected with only Democrat support, good for him. But conservatives should not forgive him for this.

I am saddened to hear that he believes the CBO numbers. I haven't yet seen where the CBO doesn't come in well below the actual numbers. Either he's started to buy what the BS merchants are hawking, or he is using their lies as cover. No matter which is true, he needs to be guided to the door. High taxes, mammoth burocracy, hamstringing business, and all for the lucrative hoax of "man-made global warming". It is about power and money...our money.
