Today in Washington State more people are dying from prescription drug abuse than from car accidents.

Prescription drugs - used incorrectly - are killing more people in King County than all other illegal drugs, combined.

  I have been listening to your report each morning this week. One thing I haven't heard yet is oxycontin has not been considered addictive until recently. My son died last July at 37 after years of taking oxycontin which was prescribed to him by one physician. When I went to one of Joe's appointments, the doctor actually told me Joe was not an addict! Joe was in hospital 11 days and died during his sleep the first night he was out. The autopsy reads "overdose" but in reality he was clean and his heart gave up. The second option was dilated cardiomyopathy which results from too many drugs and alcohol. Thank you for bringing this to everyone's attention. It hurts everyday but my hope is that people become more knowledgable about a very bad drug.

  I lost a son who became addicted to suicide, time heals but it never goes away. It seems to me that oxycontin should be taken off the market. I had a friend who was on it for extremely severe back pain. He went through terrible withdrawel when he stopped taking it. He was given it right before they decided it was indeed addictive. He is a very strong person and father so he realized what was going on but said it was a tough few days.
