Saturday is the official opening day for boating season in Seattle.

Lake Washington and the Montlake Cut are expected to be packed with boaters eager to watch the Windermere Cup Opening Day Regatta and Boat Parade.

"On Saturday, we have a commissioning ceremony out here on the lawn where we bless the fleet, start the ceremonies, and then we watch the crew races. There are over 700 athletes in the crew races that range in age from high school all the way up to 65 years old," said Lynn Roth, an event organizer with the Seattle Yacht Club.

Boaters were allowed to begin lining up on the log boom Thursday afternoon and they must be in place by Saturday before 8am.

Registry to participate in the parade is over.

    Boating should be banned !
There is absolutly nothing good that comes from people engaging in "boating". Firstly, it motivates the owners, most of whom are Republicans, to cut wages and benefits for the people they employ, so they afford the boat/yacht to begin with. The worst offender in the world in my opinion, is Duane Hagadone, who owns the "Lady Lola" which is featured on a TV show about "Mega yachts". Hagadone is an Idaho businessman who has thousands of people slaving away for him, most of which earn minimum wage or little more, certainly Duane does not believe in retirement, other than his lavish own. Secondly, these boats all consume anywhere from a LOT, to an incredible lot of gasoline or diesel. The consumption of petroleum means US troops in the Persian Gulf under the guise of providing "freedom" for the Arabic people, when in reality it means slaughtering Arabic people. Petroleum also means dead sea otters, oil soaked seals and walruses, dead sea birds, a purple sheen of oil around Marinas, and global warming. Thirdly, people on boats typically throw beers cans and bottles, cigarette butts, other types of garbage, some of which is plastic and will be in the environment for hundreds of years, causing damage to fish and Orcas. I am completely against boating of any kind, other than canoeing and kayaking. Speaking of kayaking, the evil Warlord Bush and his people, cared so little for the victims of Hurricane Katrina ( a by product of global warming ) that they couldn't even send helicopsters into New Orleans to drop the poor people a kayak!

Wow there guy, you are a piece of work. Do you know how many holes your arguments have? Do you drive a car? Do you like sea food? Owning boats cause people to cut wages? No one works for me, I work for someone else and I own a boat... How does that work? I guess according to you I must cut my wifes' spending. Ha ha ha I love boating and what it brings to people. I'm third gen mariner in Ballard. I see first had the jobs, the fun, and the life styles boating creates. A very positive and strong industry of Seattle. Your just ignorant to that.

Good Lord man! How can someone be as out there as you? Do you stand out amongst your friends as out there, or are they as out of touch as you are? And do you still believe that global warming scam?!
