Expect to hear a lot about gun control when the legislature reconvenes in January.

Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles is among those who want to ban the sale of military-style, semi-automatic weapons. "These are guns that I don't see have any function in our society."

Kohl-Welles said she was prompted to act after the murder of Seattle Police Officer Tim Brenton.

"He was believed to be killed by a semi-automatic assault weapon. Of course, we also had the killing of several other police officers not by assault weapons. The point here is that we're having police killed in much larger numbers than the past."

The ban, which is supported by the Seattle Police department would cover all weapons that are capable of rapid fire and can hold more than 10 rounds in a clip.

Also supporting the ban is Washington Ceasefire, a non- profit organization dedicated to reducing gun violence.

The bill in question is called the Aaron Sullivan Public Safety and Police Protection Bill. Which is named for Sullivan who was killed by an assault rifle in Seattle on July 22nd, 2009.

    Yikes!
My mom's little tiny 25 caliber pistol would qualify as a banned gun under this. That gun MIGHT kill someone in 10 shots. Sheesh! My wife also has to pack a gun, as she evicts people as part of her job that get very angry. Her boss was even stabbed once when collecting rent from a delinquent tenant. This only makes HER less safe, because the low-lives that are at the buildings she manages are typically thugs like Monfort and Clemmons that will be packing bigger guns than what is available to the public.

    When will they ever learn??
Punish the behavior and the individual who performs it. Otherwise there is no relationship between doing bad things and what happens to you afterwards. Punishing everyone (limiting the rights of the public) based on the behavior of individuals or small groups is not the answer.

    Assault Weapon Ban
When Jeanne "hyphenated" takes away the right of personal protection through firearm restriction, will she grant life long reimbursement to all dependants of a victum who depended on the Government for protection?

    Funny, in a sad way
The quote basically negates any sound reasoning for this. Anyway, another vain attempt to challenge the 2nd Amendment, the whole premise of which is to give civilians means to defend against government should it step out of line.

    Why am I not surprised?
Here we go again. Someone breaks the law and then our lawmakers feel the need to create more laws. Legislators like Jeanne Kohl-Welles make me sick because they don't address the real problem and make problems that weren't ones before. Officer Brenton was killed by a guy bent on killing cops. Monfort already violated current laws when he killed Brenton and shot it out with cops trying to arrest him. It would not have mattered if he used a hunting rifle. Would we then hear about lawmakers who want to ban deer rifles? He still killed. Good thing I renewed my NRA membership this year.

When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns...
A state proposal to ban weapons will lead to criminals being better armed than the citizens. Criminals are already prohibited from having weapons, yet they have them in abundance. Do you think adding another law will keep someone bent on a life of crome from having a gun? Nope. The only people who would obey such a law are those who would not tend toward crime anyway...

    Gun Ban
The late Sonny Bono (Rep. CA.) Spoke to the rediculous nature of the now expired national Assualt Weapons ban, by pointing out that if you call it the "Ugly-gun" ban, the summation of five uglinesses are illegal, but four ugly parts are OK is a stupid way of disarming the public. For you non-gunowners, the specific "banned weapons" had to have at least five of the frightening appearing features such as a muzzle flash suppressor, a bayonet mounting device, a removeable magazine, a carrying handle, a pistol style grip not attached to the butt-stock and an adjustible stock to shorten the overall length. The semi-auto function was NOT a part of the "BANNED" uglies. Let's see how many ugly parts Ms. Hyphenated plans to define as part of her public disarmanent efforts.
