Listen to Chris' report

They've tested the trucks and the GPS, and today the Seattle Department of Transportation will tell the city council it is ready for winter.

City snow plows now come equipped with GPS tracking, something they didn't have last winter when Seattle's streets went days without snow removal.

The system has been checked and the city can now monitor each truck and get them where they need to go.

On Monday SDOT will brief the council on its plans that include a commitment to clear the major roads within eight hours. There's also an emphasis on getting secondary roads open in at least one direction.

The plan includes a salt-brine street treatment that the city will use before a big storm is expected to hit.

The city spend $400,000 on its new plans.

Of course they're ready...it's supposed to be a milder winter. They're just playing the odds...hoping Seattle people will forget the debacle of 2008-2009. As soon as the real snow hits, they won't be able to get tot heir plows to use the new GPS. Bwahahah, stop, you're killing me!!!!

    Just wait....
........$400,000 wasted when no snow falls during the next 5 years, then they'll lose interest, scrap most of SDOT and we'll get hit hard again. I will laugh my A** off.

    Tracking Systems
I for one think that it is a good idea that the city spend the money on GPS trackers. They WASTE money on so many stupid things the least they could do is invest in a technology that will allow my streets to get plowed so I can make it to work. I found good information on snow plows being equipped with tracking devices at http://www.tracking-system.com/ and from my research the devices will end up saving the city money over time. That means they will have more money they can waste on other more stupid things. GO SEAHAWKS!

I'm going out on a limb here
Maybe they should just send a few folks to the twin cities during winter time....everything you need to know about ridding a city of snow on roads and moving people during or after a snow storm,........can be learned there........in one visit......save you about $395,000. But that's just me.
