Researcher says quake fault may be closer than we thought

The major earthquake fault that scientists thought was off Washington's coast might just be closer than they thought.

The latest research shows the Cascade Subduction Zone might only be 50 miles to the west, not the 100 miles that most scientists had believed. And that means a major quake along the fault would mean much more potential damage along the I- 5 corridor.

Studying GPS movements, a Central Washington University researcher found the fault runs almost entirely under the state instead of off the coast.

Tim Melbourne hopes his research will spur tougher building codes and a broader discussion of earthquake danger in our region.

This is why we need light rail! Not sure why, but anything nowadays is used to justify light rail.

....but I would sleep better at night if they were to drain the Pacific Ocean and give us all an EXACT measurement of this pesky fault line.

So let's see here...fault was believed to be 100 miles of the coast, now 50 miles of the coast, and yet "researcher found the fault runs almost entirely under the state instead of off the coast". Who writes this stuff?

    What a sham
The Hippe dem scientists are only publishing this story to raise money for the state. They figure if they can scare people into spending extra money on earthquake-proofing current buildings, or spending more on construction for earthquake-proofing new ones then their blue government friends will get 9.9% of whatever those increased costs are. Nice try hippies, but we ain't as blind as you'd like us to be!
