Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels will be among the speakers at Friday's memorial.

Nickels told KIRO Radio his message will be one of appreciation.

"Thank you for sharing Tim with us, thank you for letting him follow his life long dream to be a police officer and whatever support and help we can provide your family during these tough few days. In the long term 'We're there for you.'"

Nickels said he recently visited Officer Brenton's family.

"Lisa and the kids are dealing with it as well as can be expected, but they're heart broken. They lost their husband, their dad, their son, their brother, and they lost them in an instant in a horrible act last Saturday night. They're going to struggle, but I think it's meant a lot to them, the outpouring of support from the community."

Nickels said his hope is that the solidarity this city has shown will continue and grow and end up being something positive that comes out of this tragedy.

will apologise and probably say that if he had only banned guns for the whole city this wouldn't have happened

    Sad
Always amazes me how many people comment when a cop did something wrong, or is alleged to have done something wrong and when a cold-hearted person kills a cop for no reason there is not one comment. Goes to show how cold and uncaring this society has become. So you had a bad experience with a cop or even a few cops, so what? I had lots of bad experiences with women, men , kids you name it, that doesn't mean I don't care anymore, that doesn't mean I hate women, men or kids in genaral. You can find assholes in every profession, every sex, every state and every country and yet for every assholes there are hundreds of wonderful people out there. Be fair, punish and condem the ones who deserve it, don't just say all cops are bad because everybody knows it just isn't true. I feel for this man's family, what a terrible and shocking loss.

    Not all bad
When the good cops weed out the bad cops then the public would have much more respect for them. I feel bad for the cop that was shot but for some reason no one seams to care about all the young people in the service that are killed every week protecting us. The cops have to clean up the mess that the bad cops caused because only they can do it. Realitycheck if your a cop then you know what needs to be done.
