Older generation can wait on swine flu vaccination
KIRO Radio
Researchers say swine flu is hitting young people hardest. And with vaccines still hard to come by, Washington's health secretary is trying get people to prioritize.
Mary Selecky is encouraging anyone born before 1957 to wait, so those at highest risk can get vaccinated sooner.
"We expect by mid to late November that we'll have enough vaccine. I promise we'll come out and say to people 'ya'll get in line.' I'll be the first to say it's time for me and it's time for you," said Selecky.
Selecky said she doesn't plan to get her vaccination anytime soon. "I'm 62 years old. I'm going to wait because young people, pregnant women should get the vaccine first."
But she said older people should still get their seasonal flu vaccine right away.
