Convicted Pierce County judge resigns
The court said Judge Michael Hecht submitted his resignation Monday, effect Nov. 16.
Presiding Judge Bryan Chushcoff says the resignation will help restore public confidence and allow the governor to appoint a new judge. Chushcoff says the court's business has been hampered since March when Hecht took a leave of absence, following his arraignment.
He was convicted Wednesday in Tacoma and faces up to 90 days in jail when he is sentenced Nov. 19.
