Refrigerator the best place for medical information
KIRO Radio
First responders say there's something you can keep in your refrigerator, which can save your life, but it's not medicine. It's information.
Its a Medic One program based on when first responders, like Lieutenant Chuck Sasse, rush into a home to help someone who's ill or unconscious.
"We often times look in the refrigerator because there are certain types of medications that are kept there," said Sasse.
Well, why not keep all your medical information in there? So Medic One Foundation adopted a program called Vial of L.I.F.E., Lifesaving Information For Emergencies. You fill out a medical form, put it in a small container, and keep it in your refrigerator.
"Having used it several times, it's very useful," said Sasse.
He wants more people to use the program and if you already have a "vial of life," use the Daylight Saving-Time weekend to update your medical info in it.
New to the Vial of L.I.F.E program? To get started, you can purchase a new vial at any Bartells for just $1 (with net proceeds benefiting the Medic One Foundation).
