Police are looking for a suspect after a bank robbery at the Columbia Center at 5th and Columbia in downtown Seattle Monday.

Officer Mark A. Jamieson says a teller told a uniformed police captain shortly before noon that a man was trying to rob the downtown bank.

The captain told the man to show his hands, but he walked out and entered a taxicab that also contained a woman and the driver. When the captain ordered everyone in the taxi to show their hands, the man threatened the driver, who ran away.

Eyewitness Lou Townsend watched police surround the taxi. "Guns were drawn on the cab."

Officer Mark Jamieson says the man couldn't get the car in gear and fled on foot.

Jamieson says a 20 minute standoff followed. "Fired a projectile, smashed out the back window, at that point in time we got a really quick surrender from her."

Police don't know if the woman in the cab was an accomplice, but the guy who ran out of the bank and tried to steal the cab is still on the run.

    For the love of Pete
So...If the woman in the cab was not involved, why the 20 minute standoff and the projectile through the window? Is the woman innocent? A victim of circumstance? Was the man really trying to steal the cab? Did the cab driver run away in fear or was he part of the plot? What role could he have had? What you have here is a sensation headline not a news story. Have you folks at KIRO completely forgotten how to cover a story and ask questions to get the facts and report them? This is NOT journalism, it is a joke and a disgrace. All you did was get the basics that someone listening to the police dispatch could garner and posted it as a story. No wonder fringe media is going broke. It was worse before the last time I said .... Return to edit before posting, that you deleted I might mention.

    I have to Agree.
Unanswered questions make clicking on this story unworthy.

A description of the perp would be nice
Police might find the guy if KIRO put SOME details in the story.
