Employers will pay more for health insurance again this year, but employees will likely shoulder more of that cost increase.

A nationwide survey by Hewitt Associates shows large companies will pay about six percent more for health insurance next year, while employee premiums are projected to increase ten percent.

State Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler calls that cost sharing. "They've held down their costs for health insurance, but it's come at the expense obviously of the employee who has to pay more and more for the employer's health insurance."

The typical employee of a large company will pay 23 percent of the cost of health care premiums. It's typically more for employees of smaller companies.

The survey shows employee out-of-pocket expenses, such as co-payments and deductibles are also projected to increase next year by ten percent.

    Health Insurance Premiums
This is just another example of why we need public insurance on a national basis. We have a wimp in our insurance commissioner in Olympia; greed of the Insurance Companies... a few executives could accept each $100,000 less and live very nicely as well as perks such as cars, travel, vacations, and retreats and so on. Costs have not increased any where the need claimed and the hand wringing is not working. The insurance industry makes the Mafia look like kindergarten players. Let us bring in a national health program and watch what happens to what they charge. They have no competition, huge reserves, and GREED as a code of conduct. Jon

    Open competition
Let all insurance companies compete for our money and we won't need a national plan.
