Suspicious fires continue in U District
KIRO Radio
Two more fires in Seattle's University District this weekend bring the total number of suspicious blazes there to five in the last two weeks.
Police and fire units responded to the home in the 4300 block of 8th Avenue Northeast around 9:30 Sunday night and found an oven mitt burning in an outside grill. The fire in the barbecue was quickly put out by fire crews with no damage reported to the home.
Another arson was reported at 3 a.m. Saturday at an apartment building in the 4200 block of Ninth Avenue Northeast. A man returning to his third-floor apartment found burning paper in the hallway. The man called 911 and Seattle fire crews quickly doused the blaze, which burned about one square foot of carpet.
It wasn't immediately clear whether the fires were related to three U District arsons last Saturday and Monday. In the earlier fires, items placed outside were ignited near buildings.
