Heat puts stress on power system
KIRO Radio
The hot weather is putting heavy demand on the electrical system in the Northwest.
Seattle City Light's Mike Egan says there's enough electricity available, but getting it to customers could be a problem. "It's not so much the availability of power as it is the vulnerability of some of the older parts of our system."
Eagan says underground wiring gets brittle, and above ground wiring and equipment get dusty and dirty, and hot which could cause it to fail in scattered areas where it's the oldest.
