Federal stimulus dollars are coming to the aid of area arts and cultural programs. The City of Seattle and King County's cultural services agency, 4Culture, announced Tuesday they will receive $500,000 in federal stimulus funding.

King County Executive Kurt Triplett says the stimulus will preserve thousands of jobs and serve to stimulate many other sectors. "Make no mistake about it, regionally, arts nonprofits employ thousands of citizens and stimulate spending in various sectors of the economy, from restaurants and hotels to construction and retail."

"We are focused on creating and saving jobs in all areas of our local economy. The arts are essential to the health and vitality of our city," said Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels.

Arts Programs in the City of Seattle and King County are also set to benefit from $250,000 grant awarded to each by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

Local nonprofit arts organizations can apply for their portion of the funds by submitting an application to the city or the county by August 10th.

    Insanity
Hmmm, no stimulus for manufacturing or anything that is a jobs creator, no we stimulate art! This is the change you voted for!

Enough with the blasted art projects!!!
My gawd! A one time spending on art does NOTHING to stimulate the economy. That money will get absorbed and then won't reproduce any additional dollars. How about infrastructure? Bringing some of our government inefficient vehicles up to something more efficient so the following year's fuel expense is less? I would like to see documentation on how they figure it takes THOUSANDS of people to create some of the public art that has been shoved down our throat.

    ...but
hopefully the artwork is making people happy, because that does have a positive effect on the economy, possibly stimulating the buyers, it is hard to see how it will help save so many jobs as the man discussed.
