Two charged with shooting dog, leaving it for dead
Prosecutors say the men were trying to kill the dog because it had bitten the younger man's wife several times.
King County Animal Care and Control officers say the dog, Maynard, had been tied to a tree and left to suffer. It was found May 31 lying about 15 feet down a steep embankment off a road outside North Bend.
Animal Control officers said once it was found, the dog survived for four days after surgery but was paralyzed and eventually had to be euthanized.
The 4-year-old dog was taken to an animal shelter, where he was found to be partially paralyzed and in extreme pain. According to court papers filed Tuesday in King County Superior Court, the dog was euthanized.
Animal Control Interim Manager Nancy McKenney notes low- cost obedience classes and dog training options are available and animal owners can always surrender a dog to King County.
The Humane Society of the United States offered a $2500 reward for information leading to a conviction in the case. Pasado's Safe Haven added a $10,000 reward as well.
